Organizers
The Canadian Go Open is organized by the Canadian Go Association (CGA). For the 2024 event the local organizers in Ottawa are the Ottawa Association of Chinese-Canadian University Alumni (OACCUA) and Ottawa Go School.
This Go competition will not only be a grand Go event, but also an excellent opportunity to promote the Eastern culture. As an important part of China’s excellent traditional culture, Go is not only widely spread in China, Japan, South Korea and other Asian regions, but in recent years, with the combination of computer artificial intelligence and Go, it has gradually had an impact on Western society.
We believe that the Go players in Canada and North America will become important messengers to spread the Eastern culture, jointly promote the dissemination and promotion of Go in North America, and contribute to enhancing the international communication capabilities and international influence of the Eastern culture.
Canadian Go Association (CGA)
The Canadian Go Association (CGA) is the national governing body of the Canadian Go sport and a national member of the International Go Federation. Founded in the early 1960s, the overall goal of the CGA is to promote the comprehensive development of Go in Canada and is committed to promoting the sport of Go nationwide. Thanks to the unremitting efforts of the CGA, Go clubs and Go schools have been established in major cities in Canada, allowing Go enthusiasts to have the opportunity to learn from each other, and to train young chess players to get started and improve.
Another important task of the Canadian Go Association is to maintain close contact with Go associations around the world and actively coordinate the participation of Canadian players in international Go competitions. The main activities of the association include hosting the Canadian Go Open, selecting Canadian representative players to participate in international competitions, maintaining the CGA rating system, and providing funding for Go teaching and youth projects, etc.
Ottawa Association of Chinese-Canadian University Alumni (OACCUA)
The Ottawa Association of Chinese-Canadian University Alumni (OACCUA) was established in 1999. It is a non-political, non-religious, and non-profit volunteer organization registered in Ontario, Canada. OACCUA’s mission is to promote exchanges and cooperation among alumni of Chinese universities in the capital area, foster community spirit among members, and encourage alumni to make positive contributions to the community and society.
For over 20 years, OACCUA has organized various community activities, including beach volleyball, table tennis, Go tournaments, Chinese Spelling Bee Contest for primary and secondary school students, By Youth For Youth charity concerts, dragon boat races, and collaborative events for traditional festivals such as the Spring Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival. These activities demonstrate OACCUA’s strong organizational capability and cohesion.
The association’s WeChat public account is a popular platform for sharing information about community events, culture, and children’s education. The efforts of OACCUA have created a broad platform for social interaction, learning, and community contribution, positively impacting Canada-China relations and enhancing the community’s image. OACCUA has become an integral part of the Chinese community in the Ottawa area.
Ottawa Go School
The Ottawa Go School was founded in 2017. It is currently the only specialized Go training institution in the Capital Region, focusing on the enlightenment and improvement of children’s Go. The school’s mission is to promote Go in Canada so that more children can understand Go, learn to play chess, and enjoy the fun of Go.
While we are committed to improving children’s Go level, we pay more attention to the influence of traditional Go culture on children’s thoughts, morals, thinking and other aspects. Learning Go can not only promote intellectual development, but also help cultivate children’s logical thinking, independent thinking ability and overall situation perspective.
